Four years ago my boyfriend gave me a small fir tree as a present for Christmas. We did not expect her to survive then because she was only about a quarter of what she is now - which means hardly more than a branch. Since then she lives on the balcony where she grows and grows and grows. And once a year I doll her up for our celebration.
